AT THE TUSCAN TABLE: A LIVING JOURNEY THROUGH CUISINE, CRAFT, AND CULTURAL MEMORY

Pasta-Making Experience in New York Celebrates Tuscany’s Culinary and Artisanal Heritage

New York, NY — June 11, 2026 — The Tuscany Tourism Board and All about Italy host an immersive pasta-making cooking class and luncheon Friday, June 12 at EVENTO in New York City, offering guests a sensory journey into Tuscany’s culinary traditions, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage systems recognized by UNESCO.

Taking place at EVENTO (171 Canal Street, 3rd Floor), the experience to be led by Chef Andrea Belfiore combines hands-on cooking, storytelling, and a Tuscan-style luncheon rooted in the region’s tradition of conviviality.

More than a culinary workshop, the event presents Tuscany as a cultural landscape where food, craft, language, and memory form an interconnected system of identity passed down through generations.

As one of the world’s leading centers for media, culinary culture, and international travel audiences, New York City serves as a strategic platform for introducing Tuscany’s cultural heritage to a global public. Hosting the experience in Manhattan allows the Tuscany Tourism Board and All about Italy to engage directly with cultural voices, and lifestyle audiences shaping contemporary conversations around food, travel, and experiential culture.

A LIVING CULTURE AROUND THE TABLE

In Tuscany, a meal is more than just a meal—it is a social ritual shaped by centuries of tradition. This cultural identity was formally recognized on December 10, 2025, when Italian cuisine was inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list, acknowledging food as a living system of skills, gestures, and shared knowledge.

During pasta-making cooking class, guests will learn to prepare pici, the iconic hand-rolled pasta of Siena, and experience a Tuscan meal reflecting simplicity, seasonality, and regional heritage.

CULTURAL HERITAGE AND STORYTELLING

The program explores Tuscany’s broader cultural legacy, including the historical influence of Caterina de’ Medici (1519–1589), a key figure in the evolution of European dining culture. Her introduction of court etiquette, structured multi-course meals, and Tuscan culinary traditions helped shape modern gastronomy.

The experience also reflects Tuscany’s wider UNESCO-recognized heritage landscape, from traditional food culture to rural practices such as truffle hunting (cerca e cavatura del tartufo), a centuries-old relationship between people, animals, and nature.

FROM ARTISANAL MASTERY TO CULTURAL HERITAGE: TUSCANY’S TRADITION OF CRAFTSMANSHIP

Beyond its celebrated cuisine and wines, Tuscany is renowned for a rich tradition of craftsmanship that has shaped the region’s cultural identity for centuries. From exquisite silk textiles and world-famous goldsmithing to crystal artistry and terracotta craftsmanship, Tuscan artisans have transformed local materials into internationally recognized symbols of excellence. Among these enduring traditions is the art of paper-making, celebrated along the historic Via della Carta, where handmade watermark paper was produced for artists, institutions, and libraries across Europe.

This legacy connects to Florence’s historic libraries, including the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana and the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, as well as cultural institutions throughout the region preserving centuries of written heritage.
